A Letter from Abigail

Dear Friends,

Ever since I was a child visiting National Trust houses, I’ve been captivated by the contrasts between the grand, pattern-clad Upstairs rooms and the more practical, understated Downstairs spaces. The Upstairs rooms, richly adorned with deep colors and decorative fabrics, exude a sense of luxury and grandeur. In contrast, the Downstairs quarters, with their functional cabinetry, tiled floors, and practical built-ins, tell a different story, one of comfort, simplicity, and understated elegance.

It is this duality, this juxtaposition of the opulent and the humble, that has become the heart of my design philosophy. By blending the two, I’ve created a style that celebrates both the heritage of the grand estates and the practicality of everyday living. This playful merging of Upstairs and Downstairs design elements forms the foundation of my Interior Design approach.

In my work, I incorporate decorative botanical prints, which nod to the heritage of luxury, and juxtapose them with lines and textures more often seen in the more functional spaces of these heritage homes. It is this fusion of patterns, mixing the elegance of Upstairs with the grounded charm of Downstairs, that inspires my collection of self-drawn wallpapers and fabrics.

My designs are scaled and colored for the modern home, yet deeply rooted in the traditions of Britain’s grandest properties. I’ve reimagined classic Upstairs patterns, from brocades to damasks, and paired them with the simpler stripes, block prints, and motifs found in heritage Downstairs spaces. This blend of grandeur and simplicity, opulence and practicality, defines what I call Modern British Heritage.

When designing these collections, we’ve carefully considered the scale of all homes, from grand country estates to more modest properties. We wanted to ensure that our prints would fit beautifully into every type of space, making it easy for you to bring the beauty of heritage-inspired design into your own home, no matter the size.

Each piece in my collection is a reflection of the intricate patterns seen in decorative fabrics, tiles, and carvings from some of the country’s most magnificent homes. Yet, they are tailored to the modern-day home, with colors and scales that speak to today's tastes while still honoring the rich history of our nation’s grand estates.

I hope that, through my wallpapers and cloths, you can bring a touch of that heritage into your own home, infusing your space with beauty, history, and a sense of playfulness.

With love,

Abigail x
